Counseling for Individuals
Whatever you have been doing is not working. It's time to try something different. You have made a wise choice to come here.
Therapy is the place to work through this stuff. It's the place to talk freely. It's the place to discover what is true for you. I will work with you. We can discover what will be most helpful to relieve your pain. We can do this by releasing anger or grief, strategizing, rationalizing, unpacking old stories, practicing mindfulness, or just presence. It’s my role to support you on your journey.
You can schedule a phone consultation easily online, or by email or phone. I am happy to spend time talking with you to determine if it's a good fit for both of us.

What are my clients struggling with?
I don't feel very good about myself. I am always afraid that people don't like me, or I am in the way. I always do things for other people. Any time I focus on myself, I feel selfish. Other people are more important than me. I don't take very good care of myself. I am overweight and I have tried to lose weight, it's just hard. I feel like a failure.
My relationships with others feel really hard. It seems like everyone else has close friends and family, and I feel really alone. It's really hard for me to connect with other people. I don't understand why my relationships always fail. I want to get married (someday), but nothing seems to be working. I find myself in the same relationship over and over. What's wrong with me?
"I've been sober for a while. I still feel like something is off. I have a lot of awareness about some of my own dysfunctional behaviors, but I still feel stuck in some areas. Maybe I am ready for the next level of work.
Divorce. Your life feels like it just shattered. Everything that you thought you were has just been flipped upside down. You feel lost and confused about where to go. Get some support in this time of transition so you can set yourself up for a successful future.
Do any of these scenarios ring true for you? Let's talk.
Therapy can create lasting change in your life.
What you can expect when you begin individual Counseling
Telephone Consultation – This call is about 20 minutes. I’d like to hear a little bit about what you are struggling with to determine right away if it is a good fit for both of us. Next, we will schedule your initial appointment. I do not have evening or weekend appointments available. I will also answer any questions you have about fees and insurance (see insurance information on the bottom of this page).
Paperwork – I will send you an invitation to my online portal, where you will complete my required paperwork online.
First Session – During our initial session, we will cover paperwork and address any questions. I take time to cover the important topics just to make sure everything is clear for you. Our first session is another opportunity for us both to determine if it is a good fit. If you decide you want a referral for a different therapist, this will be the time to confirm this information. I am happy to support you in whatever way you need. If you would like to move forward with me, we will confirm scheduling. We will select a time that works weekly for both of us and hold that hour for ongoing weekly appointments.
Ongoing Sessions – When you come to therapy, we will discuss what feels most important for you. I will sometimes provide feedback or my opinion if you ask me, but this is your work and it’s important that you know that you direct the conversation. I may suggest that we meet more than once a week, if there is a lot happening in your life. I do believe that therapy progresses more quickly and effectively the more we meet. Of course, this is up to you.
Hypnotherapy – One of my specialties is hypnotherapy. I will suggest hypnotherapy if I see a pattern that I think would benefit from the use of hypnotherapy. I will discuss this with you if I think it will help.

Is Hypnotherapy For You?
One of my unique specialties is hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy is a form of somatic (body) awareness, which will help you get in touch with true belief systems that drive your life. It can also help you to access emotional energy you are storing and release it. It's also especially helpful for trauma, which is stored inside our bodies.
Hypnotherapy is widely misunderstood. Are you aware of different parts of yourself? Notice that you have a responsible, mature part of you who is perhaps present when you are at a job interview. You also have parts of you that are triggered when something bad happens. Hypnotherapy is a process of paying attention to these internal parts of yourself and seeing how they are controlling your life. We all have them.
The experience of hypnotherapy actually feels quite natural. You are awake and in complete control of your body (no chicken clucking), but in a meditative state where your body directs you toward different psychological information about yourself. Body memory is a real thing; the body stores information differently than the mind.
Hypnotherapy is a tool to help us access the memory using feelings, rather than our thinking mind. In this way, we can access the original data much more easily and work through it “at the source”, rather than trying to figure it out. Basically, hypnotherapy allows us to change some old conclusions in a very accurate way.

EMDR
I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, an evidence-based approach that is effective for those that generally feel “stuck” in the past, even if it isn’t clear how the past is impacting the present. For more information on the effectiveness of and mechanisms of healing of EMDR, please visit https://www.emdria.org/about-emdr-therapy/.
